Summer 2017 career development workshops

Interested in finding a mentor? Want to prepare for an upcoming networking event? Need help communicating with your manager about your career?

This summer, MIT HR is offering a series of career development workshops for staff on a variety of topics – from writing a great resume to building a successful mentoring relationship. You will learn valuable strategies, tips, and information at these in-person workshops:


This workshop is based on research conducted by Professor Mary Rowe here at MIT, and identifies the effects of small and subtle messages- both positive and negative- that can impact work performance and effectiveness. This workshop will identify those behaviors and explore practical and affirming communication skills that result in a more productive and inclusive work environment.

Objectives: Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

Drop-in session: new VPF website

Join us for an overview and demo of the new VPF website, launching to the MIT community on July 11.
The new website is designed to be a helpful learning tool and resource to community members by providing the how-to of finance administration at MIT—in an easy-to-follow format. The website will guide you through finance  tasks step by step, point you to relevant policies, forms, and resources, and connect you with VPF staff experts.
At the demo, we will explore several sections of the site and answer any follow-up questions you may have.

Networking tips

This Networking Workshop offers tips to prepare you to ask the right questions and to present your story effectively. It will also give you tools to enhance your networking abilities at future career and job related events.
