The Human Resources Department (HR) works to advance a vibrant and diverse community, where individuals and groups can thrive and contribute to MIT’s excellence. We are made up of five major functional areas: Benefits, Compensation, HR Operations, Employee and Labor Relations and Compliance, and Strategic Talent Management.
Our goal is to provide the more than 13,000 MIT employees and their families (and an equal number of retirees) with benefits that meet their diverse needs; fair, equitable, and competitive compensation programs; and professional development opportunities that increase performance and allow individuals, groups, and leaders to excel.
We also provide services for the Institute such as support for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; organizational development consulting; staffing services (hiring); and HR/payroll (Service Center & Payroll Department). In addition, HR minimizes risk to the Institute by ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, policy, and labor requirements through our Employee and Labor Relations group and HR Technology and Operations team.
We also manage the MIT Recognition Program, including the Excellence Awards and Collier Medal.
