The mission of the Human Resources Department (HR) is to advance a vibrant and diverse community where individuals and groups can thrive and contribute to MIT’s excellence. We are made up of five major functional areas: Benefits, Compensation, HR Operations, Employee and Labor Relations, and Organizational and Employee Development.
Our goal is to provide the more than 11,000 MIT employees and their families (and an equal number of retirees) with benefits that meet their diverse needs; fair, equitable, and competitive compensation programs; and professional development opportunities that increase performance and allow individuals, groups, and leaders to excel.
Our goal is to promote a vibrant and diverse environment where members of the community can grow, thrive, and excel.
We also provide services for the Institute such as support for diversity and inclusion efforts, organizational development consulting, staffing services (hiring), and HR/payroll (Service Center & Payroll Department). In addition, HR minimizes risk to the Institute by ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, policy, and labor requirements through our Employee & Labor Relations group and HR Technology team.
We also manage the MIT Rewards and Recognition Program and are proud to say that MIT has been selected for the AARP “50 Best Employers for Workers Over 50” for 2013.
