In the fall of 2012, the Elana Prototype Team was launched as part of a series of efforts to improve the user experience for MIT administrators. The outcome was a conceptual system prototype that illustrated how we could build a single gateway for all existing administrative systems functions, replacing SAPWeb and SAPWebSS and incorporating new applications in an intuitive, user-centric way.
Today, the philosophy and the principles embodied in the Elana Prototype work are being realized through the development of an MIT Administrative Systems Hub. Our goal is to turn the Elana Prototype into an online service nexus that matches people with the information and services they need, aligning all service delivery at a one-stop shop.
At launch in fall 2013 the Atlas hub is delivering these key elements:
- A single gateway for all existing administrative systems functions replacing SAPWeb and SAPWebSS.
- An application that will guide new employees through required and recommended activities.
- An interactive mapping application that will give members of the community information and locations for events and services—and guide them to their destinations.
- An updated interface that will assist staff in placing and processing work orders (in Release 2, targeted for end of November).
The Atlas MIT Administrative Systems Hub will be supported by a cross-platform technology solution that will allow it to scale, adapt, and grow. We believe this new release will enhance user experiences related to many administrative systems functions and enhance productivity across the Institute.
